PIERRE GAULTIER, LA VERENDRYE
- Lived Nov. 17, 1685 to Dec. 5, 1749
- In 1728 he became commandant of 3 Lake Superior trading posts
- Famous for his trading activities in North-Western Ontario & Manitoba
- With his 3 sons he founded fur trading posts on Rainy Lake, Lake of the Woods, the Red River, and the Assiniboine River.
- Before his death, he was awarded the "Order of Saint Louis".
